Not a fan of the collaborations and she seems somewhat self conscious in her newly found 'wokeness'. Lust For Life is a good, but not great album that should have been three or four songs shorter. I keep a copy of Honeymoon to listen during my long, agonizing bumper to bumper commute and it sooths me every time. The songs are so well crafted, produced, arranged, and sung, the ambience is almost like floating on top of clouds listening to angels sing! Melancholy but beautiful in every sense of the word. Turob2k absolutely nails my feelings about Honeymoon. This album is incredible in it's lush melodies and production style. I began listening to Honeymoon occasionally and one day, it was like the Red Sea parted.

Lana has an aesthetic that is somewhat hard to describe, but once you buy into it, there is no going back. I have a collection of literally thousands of cd's (99% from the 20th century), but if I didn't listen to LDR for a day or two, I got itchy. My listening habits became Ultraviolence and BTD on repeat. I began to realize that BTD was also an incredible album with many wonderful catchy tunes which become earworms that won't let ya go. I was very disappointed that the other two albums did not measure up to the classic that Ultraviolence surely is.Īs time passed, however, songs from BTD started creeping into my head and would not let go. At first I though BTD was too poppy-I am NOT a modern pop music fan at all!-and I thought Honeymoon was way too slow and boring. I soon bought a copy of Ultraviolence, along with Born to Die and Honeymoon as well. Within a week, all I wanted to listen to was Ultraviolence! None of the other cd's I borrowed made any impression at all, but Ultraviolence caught my ear the first time I listened. I started listening to LDR almost by accident-borrowing Ultraviolence from my library along with several other cds by newer artists I'd heard about. But the best songs are up there with Honeymoon and Ultraviolence. Lust For Life is a mess, it's her least cohesive and has a couple of her worst songs and most of the collaborations are unnecessary IMO. I love her vocals on Gods and Monsters and Cola, the rest of the songs are great too. Tied for number three is Paradise and Lust For Life. Maybe if they would be replaced with Black Beauty and Florida Kilos. Ultraviolence is a great album but those songs keeps it from being a perfect album. Money Power Glory is the worst culprit, I Futzed My Way Up to the Top is the other one. The first half of the album is perfect and cohesive but the second half has a couple of songs that I don't think fit the album. I love Dan Auerbach's production and guitars (especially on Cruel World and West Coast). The instrumental version of the album is beautiful too, especially the title track. My least favorite is the cover of Don't Let Me Be Understood, it's good but I feel the album ends with Swan Song and Don't Let Me Be Understood is the song that would be playing over the end credits if it was a movie. Terrence Loves You, Burnt Norton and Salvatore are other favorites, the whole album is amazing. My absolute favorite is the title track, Honeymoon, it's so slow it almost falls apart. It's so dreamy and slow, like the whole album goes in slow motion. I love every song and the production is stunning. I like some songs, her cover of “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” is great, but Honeymoon and Terrence Loves You are probably two of her weakest and most boring songs ever. But I played it to death when it was released. I didn’t like the rap collaborations and the album is maybe. New themes, “new” Lana, but still this album has some of the most Lana titles ever “Coachella - Woodstock In My Mind”. Then comes Lust for Life (2017), critically her most acclaimed album to date. Sometimes her lyrics borderline stupidity, but it is still a solid record. Perhaps one of the greatest debut albums of the century. Second best for me is Born to Die (2012), This is a fan’s favorite and I have to meet yet a Lana fan who doesn’t like it.

This album is somewhat slower than Born To Die, but she still managed to keep it under an hour. At that point, Lana was still “recycling” lyrics and themes from her previous records but the songs on UV are more developed IMO. I hope we can talk about her discography in general and not only about her best album to date.įor me, the best Lana album is Ultraviolence (2014).
